So, one afternoon I put Izzy down for her nap as usual. And like MOST times, she sits and plays in her crib for a little while, then cries until she gives up all hope of anyone coming and rescuing her, then she crashes. So, being use to the crying part, which at times and get pretty dramatic, I sat and just waited for her to get over it and go to sleep (stubborn little child we have. Although, with both her mommy and daddy being very stubborn as well, she had no hope). After an unusual amount of crying time and the fact that it continued to be "dramatized", I got up to go see what the problem was. It was dark when I went in there, so I couldn't see anything wrong at first, other than she was just upset and wanted to be held. I held her for a minute as she lay her head on my shoulder.
After I laid her back down in ehr crib, she finally went to sleep. When I walked out of her room, however, I soon noticed blood all over my shoulder. Not a crazy amount, but enough to realize that that was the reason she was crying so much. I wasn't about to go back in there after she finally went to sleep, I just figured, she had bumped her mouth and it bleed a little bit. All you moms know that even a small mouth injury always bleeds a lot and heals really fast as well.
Once she woke up from her nap, I decided to scope things out and see what I could find. I noticed the blood on her blanket first and realized, "wow, what the heck did you do", I kept looking and soon spotted a bunch of blood on the siderail. Well, the GENIOUS crib manufactures but a plastic cover on the tops of the side rails. This is good thinking for babies who teethe on the sides of their crib, therefore avoiding them chipping off and eating the paint and/or wood of the crib. HOWEVER, what they failed to think of was the proper design of this contraption. Izzy was capable of bitting the bottom part of this piece in an attept to pop it off. This backfired on her when it snapped back into place enclosing her bottom lip with it. OUCH!!
This now explained all the blood. Poor baby! Needless to say, I removed these stupid covers.
